Bees belong to the suborder of Hymenoptera called the Apocrita,characterized by the possession of a wasp waist,which is a constriction between the first and second segments of the adult abdomen. The Aculeata is a subgroup of the Apocrita which includes the ants,bees and hunting wasps.
Circumstantial evidences show that bees first appeared during the Cretaceous period,which is about 150 million years ago.
Using honeybees has more than 3000 years of history in China. Domesticated Honeybees produce bee honey,royal jelly and beeswax. They are also instrumental in pollinating crop plants.

The secretions of the honeybees are royal jelly,beeswax and bee venom.

On a world basis,the annual value of agricultural crops dependent on the pollination services of bees is estimated at ￡1000 million ($ 1590 million). Much of this pollination is due to honeybees and in monetary terms it exceeds the value of the annual honey crop by a factor of fifty.
